Annie li said: "The company that I am interning at is Schwann. Schwann is an advertising and branding company that's works locally and internationally. The company consists of different departments, but I am placed in the marketing and advertising sector. Some of the things that the company does are assisting companies with logos, web designs, icons, concepts, mainly creative ideas to present what the company is themed. Most recently Schwann has collaborated with a Chinese branding, graphic designing, and advertising company called Redbrand. For that reason, Schwann now has more Chinese clients and potential Chinese clients. What my job currently is to do research for these potential clients. The research that I do can vary from finding references or formulating ideas for the clients. So far throughout the internship I have been researching for potential clients however, I will able to have an opportunity to work on the marketing aspect of the company. How the internship is going to work, explained by my supervisor, is half of the time I will be contributing to the company. The other half he will be teaching me the some of the ins and outs of the company and how it functions. The process presented as contributing ideas and doing research, then attending meetings and joining discussions".

Colin Hart said : "I'm interning at GWC ( Great Wall Club / greatwallclub.com ) I've actually pretty much been assigned one major task, which is writing articles for their tech blog, mobisights.com ( mobisights.com/author/colin ). It involves a lot of research, since I have to understand general trends in the Chinese mobile internet market and startup market. So, specifically, I have to write five short articles everyday for their blog. I'm also expected to write several full articles as story ideas come up. For example, I recently wrote an article about Angry Birds. I was able to interview two developers with the company, which was a really great experience and fun as well. I'm also helping doing research for a report on the Korean mobile market. My company is writing and selling the report at the end of the month for 10,000 RMB a copy. Other assignments include basic data entry and editing emails written by non english speakers".

Craig Elliot said: "I am currently interning with Vandergeeten, a company responsible for distributing over 200 high end food and beverages products, including Belgian Beer, chocolates, water, and ice cream. My responsibilities most recently have been to help develop their website by reformatting the layout and loading products using an excel and a converting files to the proper format. I have been told that in the future I will have the opportunity to research and present on their products at their conventions and festivals. I have also been asked to assist various research around the office and to help current employees with their projects".

What Students Say about Internships with CAPA

Strasbourg Field Study and Internship Program/Fall 2011

WILLIAM GODFREY: Association for Migration, Solidarity, Exchange and Development (AMSED)
Will joined the staff of this NGO, founded twelve years ago in Strasbourg, and his first task was to place AMSED posters around Strasbourg’s universities and to meet students and explain the work of his organization. A first-hand learning experience in inter-cultural communication! Subsequently Will has been assigned translations of documents to be used in liaison with various European institutions (the EC’s program for development education EuropEd, the Council of Europe, and others). He has also been taking initiative to get involved in all aspects of the life of the Association: meetings, exhibits, becoming familiar with all Association initiatives, engaging with his colleagues. He will be participating in International Solidarity Week including visits to blue-collar neighborhoods of Strasbourg to develop inter-cultural dialog and the showing of a film on development in Algeria. Similarly, Will will be on the AMSED stand at Strasbourg’s celebrated Christmas Market.
Proposed Research Topic: An analysis of the European Commission’s program for involving young people in aid to development, Youth in Action.
JOHANNA WARREN: The Assembly of European Regions (AER)
At the AER, Johanna has been assigned to work under the supervision of the assistant to the General Secretary, at a time when the workload of this organization is particularly heavy and also in a period of transition, as a new General Secretary prepares to take over. Her responsibilities include not only a number of daily tasks such as telephone reception, correspondence by email and letter in both French and English, preparation of monthly and quarterly newsletters, and the like, but also active participation in the preparation of the annual meetings of AER, which will be held at the end of November in the Azores. Joanna has sole responsibility for the production of a information brochure presenting the speakers who will be featured at these meetings (biographical notices, translations, graphic design). Lastly, she produces translations or English-language editing of various texts for AER.
Proposed Research Topic: some theme related to the question of early career steps by young European professionals, a subject of work by several colleagues at the AER.
