Prospective Students

Who, When, for how long, what and where?

Ursinus students may apply to study abroad as early as the summer following the first year and as late as the penultimate semester. Sophomores are normally allowed to study abroad only in UC faculty-led programs. Most students study abroad as Juniors. All the students must be in good academic standing and meet the eligibility requirements described under Policies and Procedures. Students on disciplinary probation will not be considered. No matter what your interests are, you can find a program to fit your needs. You can take courses abroad for credit towards your major, minor, core requirements or elective credits. You can study abroad to improve your proficiency in a foreign language or to pursue advanced studies in your field in English. Some programs in non English-speaking countries allow students to take a course in the target language while taking other courses in English. Other programs are designed to immerse the student in the target language and local culture through intensive language study, family homestays, internships or community service and/or classes with local students. Your choices on what and where to study abroad are almost limitless.

Why Study Abroad?

Ursinus students study abroad to gain an international perspective on their academic majors, liberal arts education and personal interests. Study abroad allows you to take what you learn in the classroom out into the real world and bring it back again. Students can enjoy unique opportunities to engage actively with the local community by participating in family home stays, internships in local businesses and organizations, community service projects, and research. Students who study abroad gain a deeper understanding of their own culture while learning about another firsthand. Those who make an effort to engage fully hone lifelong skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaborative learning, tolerance for ambiguity and leadership. Study abroad is an opportunity for academic as well as personal growth.
