Description

Botswana is a landlocked nation in Southern Africa bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west, Zambia to the north and Zimbabwe to the northeast. Botswana is the 45th largest country and consists predominately of the Kalahari Desert which covers up 70 percent of the countries surface. The Okavango Delta is located in the northwest region of the country and is the world's largest inland delta.

The President of Botswana is both head of state, head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government, legislative power is vested in the government the Parliament of Botswana, and the Judiciary is independent of both. Botswana is divided into nine districts and these districts are divided into twenty-eight sub districts.

Women in the northern villages of Etsha and Gumare are renowned for their skills of crafting baskets from Mokola Palm and local dyes. There are typically three types of baskets: large baskets, lidded baskets, and open baskets, each of which are becoming more intricate due to improved designs and colors. In Botswana, regardless of ethnicity, citizens are considered Batswana. The economy is dominated by mining, especially diamonds, tourism, and cattle.
