Costs, Deposits and Financial Aid

Program Costs

Semester or Academic Year Programs. Regardless of their program of choice, all students pay UC tuition and room (plus board if provided by the program abroad), less any financial aid and/or funding award, directly to UC.
  • The College bills each student as usual and disburses payment to the study abroad program on the student’s behalf.
  • Students do not pay tuition directly to the host program or the university overseas. UC is the direct billing institution. Any deposit (not tuition) required by the host institution should be paid by the student. UC will credit the student's account in that amount.
  • Students must settle their Ursinus accounts by March 1 prior to study abroad in order to remain eligible.
  • Students pay for their own airfare, books and supplies, personal expenses, and optional travel overseas.
Short Term (Summer or Winter Interim) Programs. Since students do not attend UC during the interim period and do not receive financial aid for interim study, they bear the entire financial burden of short term study abroad programs.

Deposits

Deposits for UC Faculty-led Semester Abroad Programs. Students planning to participate in Ursinus in Florence, Madrid, Tübingen, and Yucatán programs must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $250 to UC in advance of the program. This deposit demonstrates their commitment to and reserves their place in the program and represents an advance payment toward the College´s tuition and fees for the semester they plan to be abroad. If the student ultimately does not participate in the study abroad program for whatever reason, s/he forfeits the deposit money altogether.
Deposits for non-UC Programs. Students participating in all other programs must pay any required deposits directly to their chosen program.
  • Program deposit fees, usually ranging between $200 and $700, will then be credited toward the student´s Ursinus account (i.e. it represents money paid in advance rather than in addition to normal tuition and room and board).
  • If the student ultimately does not participate in the study abroad program for whatever reason,s/he forfeits the deposit money altogether.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid for Semester or Academic Year Programs. Ursinus College has a “financial aid travels” policy for semester or academic year study abroad. According to this policy, approved students may use their complete financial aid package (including both need and merit-based funding) for study abroad.
  • All students who hold grants and scholarships and/or federal and state grants loans must (re-)apply for these funds annually by separate application to the Student Financial Services Office by April 1.
  • Questions about funding and financial aid should be directed to Suzanne Sparrow, Director of Student Financial Services, Corson Hall first floor.
Special Funding for Short Term programs. Whenever possible the College will make available limited special funding to offset the expenses (rather than cover the entire cost) of short term programs. Interested students must apply for this competitive funding by separate application using the Short Term Funding Application. This application must be turned in to the Study Abroad Office, Myrin 319.
  • The International Education Committee will begin reviewing these applications on February 15 and will continue to accept applications as long as funding remains available.
  • Funding awards are based on demonstrated financial need and academic merit.
  • Awards will be announced before spring break.
  • See the Special Funding Application for more details.
